Agartala, 4th September 2024:  In a significant development, the railway police in Ambassa, in coordination with border guards, detained two Bangladeshi nationals at Ambassa railway station today based on secret intelligence inputs.

The arrested individuals, identified as Smriti Khatun and Sarmin Akhter, hail from the Faridpur region of Bangladesh. The authorities acted swiftly on the information, preventing a larger group from crossing the border undetected.

According to initial reports, the two women had entered India two days ago through the Raisyabari area. After spending one night in the vicinity, they arrived at Ambassa railway station this morning, intending to board a train bound for Silchar. It is believed that they were part of a group of nine individuals, all from Bangladesh. While Smriti and Sarmin were apprehended, the remaining seven managed to escape.

Upon their arrest, authorities seized Indian currency amounting to Rs 1,320 and Bangladeshi currency totaling 5,550 Taka from their possession. Both women are currently being interrogated by officials from the Central Intelligence Agency, Tripura Police’s Intelligence Department, and the Ambassa Women Police Station. Initial inquiries suggest that the group intended to travel to Chennai in search of employment opportunities.
