Agartala, 14th September 2024:   Chief Minister Prof Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the critical need for voluntary blood donation to alleviate the ongoing blood shortage crisis. Speaking at the inauguration of the 14th Voluntary Blood Donation Camp, organized to mark the 43rd foundation day of Sri Sri Mahanam Angan at Banamalipur in Agartala city, Dr. Saha underscored the life-saving importance of such initiatives.

“There is no alternative to donating blood to save the lives of poor people. Blood shortage can be solved only through voluntary blood donation. So everyone should come forward to donate blood voluntarily,” urged Dr. Saha. He expressed his gratitude to the members of the organizing committee for their dedication to social philanthropic programs and for encouraging blood donors.

Highlighting the benefits of blood donation, Dr. Saha stated, “Many people have come to donate blood on this occasion. I want to emphasize that everyone should donate blood. Blood donation is very beneficial for our body. So everyone should come forward and donate blood. Now the condition of the blood bank is also good.”

Dr. Saha also touched upon the broader political landscape, reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advocacy for ‘one country, one election.’ “Prime Minister Modi has always advocated ‘one country, one election.’ It will be convenient if we can hold elections at the same time. Prime Minister Modi always thinks for the welfare of people. Recently, he announced health coverage for senior citizens,” he noted.

The Chief Minister highlighted the frequent blood shortages during election periods and the necessity of maintaining adequate blood stocks through voluntary donation camps. “Blood banks are often short of blood during elections. Therefore, it is crucial to keep blood stock by organizing voluntary blood donation camps. Blood is essential for people with thalassemia and those seriously injured in road accidents. Currently, we have 14 blood banks, including private ones. There is also a system of blood classification. We must keep a close eye on blood banks,” Dr. Saha emphasized.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Saha praised the initiative of Sri Sri Mahanam Angan, stating, “Nothing is possible without God. As doctors, we also pray to God before any surgery.”
