MLA Antara Sarkar Deb and her associates accused of attacking day laborers at Kamalasagar, threatens to pay Rs 2 lakh

Agartala, 16th September 2024:   The alleged Kamalasagar MLA Antara Sarkar Deb and her associates have been accused of obstructing government work and violently attacking helpless day laborers. According to reports, the incident took place in the houses for drinking water under Sekerkote Chankhala area, where construction work for platform in various houses had been ongoing for the past month.

Eyewitnesses and victims recounted the harrowing events. “We were just doing our job when suddenly a group of youths from a local club stormed in. They beat us mercilessly, took our mobile phones, and looted thirty thousand taka in cash,” said one of the laborers.

The attackers reportedly numbering between 30 to 40 demanded a payment of Rs 2 lakh from the workers. “They told us that if we didn’t pay, we wouldn’t be allowed to continue our work,” another laborer explained. The violence left several workers with broken arms, backs, and head injuries.

In a further act of intimidation, some members of the MLA party locked the door of a temporary office at the site. Despite the severity of the situation, eight of the injured laborers managed to escape and filed a case against five individuals at the Amtali police station. The accused identified as Arup, Kudu, Sukesh, Surjit and Abhijit are believed to have led the attack.

The local community is in a state of panic following the incident. “We are living in fear. The associates of MLA Sarkar Deb have created an atmosphere of terror, but we are determined to stand against them,” said a resident.

Authorities are investigating the matter, and the police have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice from various quarters, highlighting the urgent need for law and order in the region.
