Date:

Civil society members in Manipur on Monday appealed to Kuki militants to release two hostages abducted on July 27 even as Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the abduction and discussed the matter with former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

Sources said militants were demanding release of Kuki militants held by National Investigation Agency for allegedly waging war against the country. The suspected militants also released a video of the two abducted men.

The Chief Minister said that out of the three individuals abducted by Kuki militants, one was released on that day itself and the other two are still held captive. The three were going to going to an Army recruitment rally when abducted.

He said the Director General of Police, Manipur, has been rushed to the spot and hoped that it will have a positive outcome.

Since May 3, 2023 people belonging to a particular community have not been able to go out of the state using the highway as it is blocked by Kuki militants and anyone venturing onto the highway or entering a Kuki-dominated area have disappeared. So far 31 persons are reported missing since the outbreak of the violence.
