Human Trafficker Arrested in Agartala

Agartala, 3rd October 2024:  In a significant breakthrough, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested an Indian citizen, Nazmul Hossain, on charges of human trafficking. Hossain, a resident of the Matinagar area under Sonamura police station, was apprehended during a coordinated operation involving the Sonamura police and the Border Security Force (BSF).

The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into Hossain’s alleged involvement in facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingya individuals into the state. According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Agartala GRP, Hossain’s name emerged during the inquiry into a related case filed at the GRP police station.

Hossain was presented in court on Thursday, where police requested his remand for further questioning to uncover more details about his trafficking network. The case has raised concerns about the ongoing issues of human trafficking in the region, prompting authorities to intensify their efforts to combat this illegal activity.
