Agartala, 3rd October 2024: A special court in Khowai district has sentenced Salfa Jamatia to life imprisonment for gangraping of a 15-year-old girl in a case that has lingered since May 9, 2016.
The victim, a resident of the Hadrai Bari area, was last seen visiting her girlfriend’s house in the Darjeeling Tila area. Her family reported her missing when she failed to return home that evening. Tragically, her body was discovered the following day in the Darjeeling hill area.
The girl’s family filed a police report, leading to an investigation that resulted in the arrest of four suspects: Birbal Jamatia, Binay Jamatia, Salfa Jamatia, and Kareena Jamatia. Following the investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court.
After a lengthy legal process that included the testimony of 47 witnesses, Salfa Jamatia was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday. Birbal and Vinay Jamatia, two other accused in the case, have since passed away, while Kareena Jamatia was released by the court.
