3 held with contraband worth over Rs 50 Lakh in Khowai

Agartala, 3rd October 2024:  In a major operation, Tripura Police seized a large quantity of contraband valued at over Rs 50 lakh and arrested three individuals in Khowai District on Thursday.

Teliamura Sub-divisional Police Officer, Panna Lal Sen, revealed that they had received a tip-off about a truck transporting a significant haul of narcotics disguised as stone chips, heading towards Khowai District. Acting on the intelligence, security forces were deployed, and checkpoints were established.

“When the suspected truck reached Mungiakami, we detained it for inspection. In the presence of the Magistrate and other officials, we unloaded the stone chips and found 72 sacks containing 9,900 bottles of Eskuf and Phensedyl. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately Rs 50 lakh. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with this operation,” Sen stated.

In a separate operation, DSP Pritam Chanda of Khowai informed that another vehicle was intercepted based on a tip-off. Upon searching the vehicle, 47.5 kg of cannabis was recovered. “We have arrested one Rajani Debbarma, who will be presented before the court. We will request police custody for further interrogation,” Chanda said.
