Two youths have been arrested for attempting to get recruited in the army under ‘Agniveer’ scheme on the basis of fake certificates and identities, a senior officer said here on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said the process of recruitment under Agniveer scheme is underway at Jat Regiment center in Bareilly.
“Two persons were caught with fake Aadhar cards, identity cards, educational documents and caste certificates during biometric verification of the aspirants,” he said.
He said that while Arun Khan, a resident of Khandoli in Agra district, attempted to get recruited in the name of Dharamraj, the second youth Pal Singh changed his name to Ranjit.
“The two managed to clear the physical fitness test, but were caught during biometric verification on Wednesday evening when it was found that all of their certificates were fake,” he said.
Bhati said the duo was handed over to the Cantt police station by the army.
“The two have been sent to jail after interrogation. The Military Intelligence is also verifying possible Pakistani or any other connection,” he said.
He said that during preliminary investigation it has been revealed that while Arun’s father Gaffar works as a linesman in the power department, Pal’s father runs a dairy.
