Internet services suspended in Unakoti for next 36 hours

Agartala, 18th October 2024:   The state government has suspended internet services in the entire Unakoti District for reported communal tension prevailing in the district.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty, Secretary of Home Department in a notification said, “In continuation of this department’s notification dated 15th October 2024 in Unakoti District, I, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty, Secretary to the Government of Tripura, Home Department do hereby issue this notification under the provision of Section 52 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, to prohibit the following types of media for the next 36 hours from 1700 hours of 18/10/2024 throughout the entire Unakoti Tripura District”.

The notification said that SMS Messages of all Mobile Service Providers, Mobile Internet/Data Service of all Mobile Service Providers and all sorts of press messages.

“ Violation of this notification will be punishable under Section 223 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and also under the relevant provision of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017”,  the order reads.
