KTR highlights Musi River transformation through KCR-initiated STPs

Date:

BRS Working President and former Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) lauded former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) for initiating the construction of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), which have played a pivotal role in converting sewage water into clean water for the Musi River.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the country’s largest STP at Nagole on Saturday, KTR emphasized the significant improvement in water quality flowing into the Musi as a result of these efforts.

He criticized the previous Congress and TDP governments for their negligence, stating that their mismanagement turned Musi into a cesspool. KTR referenced a 2015 report by the Central Pollution Control Board, which identified Musi as the most polluted river. He credited KCR’s leadership for prioritizing the river’s revival.

KTR outlined the then government’s comprehensive plan, which included the construction of 31 STPs at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore to treat wastewater, along with the construction of 15 bridges over the Musi to manage water flow.

Additionally, the connection of Godavari water to the Musi River was completed through the Konda Pochamma project, at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore.

KTR also criticized the Congress Government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for inflating the cost of the Musi revival project, accusing him of exaggerating the budget to Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

In contrast, KTR stated that the project would be possible to complete with Rs 25,000 crore, covering STPs, bridges, expressways, and the Godavari water connection.

He also emphasized that the party would stand by the people affected by the project.
