Agartala, 20th October 2024:  Agartala’s safety measures have once again come under scrutiny following a disturbing kidnapping incident that occurred late Saturday night. A young man, Samir Das, was reportedly abducted by a group of 10 to 12 people near Adviser Chowmuhani in the capital, sparking concerns over the city’s growing lawlessness.

As per police Samir was forcibly taken by the group using bikes and a luxury car, reportedly due to previous animosities. The abductors later beat him in a secluded area near Heritage Park. Fortunately, locals in the vicinity intervened and rescued Samir, preventing further harm.

Following the incident, Samir’s family lodged a complaint at West Agartala Police Station. Acting swiftly, police apprehended three individuals in connection with the crime—Abir Chakraborty, Bishal Biswas, and Arghyadeep Lodh. They were arrested from different parts of the city, including Gorkhabasti, Indranagar, and Arundhatinagar. A luxury car, bearing registration number TR 01 CB 0521, was also seized, which was allegedly used in the abduction.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of West Agartala Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered against the arrested individuals, and efforts are underway to apprehend the others involved. According to the police, up to 10 to 12 more suspects are still at large, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

However, this incident has left residents of Agartala deeply concerned about the city’s deteriorating law and order situation. Increasing criminal activities in the evening are making the streets unsafe for common citizens, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the city’s security apparatus.
