Court sent two women in Police custody for smuggling cannabis in Khowai

Agartala: September 19. The Khowai district court has sent two women with one infant in three days police custody after they were arrested with cannabis on September 17. On September 17, the railway police conducted a special operation at Teliamura railway station based on tip-off. A total two women including a three-year-old child were arrested in this special operation.

In the raid, the railway police recovered 9 kg of dry cannabis. It is said that the market value of this recovered cannabis will be around Rs 1 lakh. Those arrested by the police are Hirana Begum (37), Alia Khatun (27) and Maha Mahaj (03) of Khowai. On September 18, these detainees were produced before the court and the police applied for remand for questioning. The Court after considering all aspects ordered police remand for three days for interrogation. It may be noted that since the Railway Police has no women lockup, the court has ordered that the investigating officer can come to Khowai Jail for these three days of police custody and interrogate them.
