Agartala, 23rd December 2024: Former Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday criticized the Congress party in the state for its family-centric politics, alleging that this is why they handed over power to the communists.
Deb made these remarks while attending a blood donation camp in Agartala. He asserted that family-run parties fail to recognize grassroots leaders who rise through hard work rather than relying on political dynasties.
“My father was never a Chief Minister, and today’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was once a tea seller, rose to power due to his dedication. This is why people support the BJP. The people of Tripura understand the history of those from prominent families who became Prime Ministers. For instance, the Congress in Tripura gave power to the communists because of family succession. Had Union Home Minister Amit Shah not sent me to Tripura, the state would still be under communist rule,” he said.
While addressing the blood donation camp, Deb emphasized the strong faith people of Tripura have in Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He further mentioned that Shah’s frequent visits to the state reflect his commitment to developing Tripura.
Deb also took a jab at former Congress Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman and his son, Congress MLA and former Minister Sudip Roy Barman. He recalled how both questioned why he was appointed Chief Minister in 2018, citing their family’s political legacy. He remarked, “When the BJP government was formed in Tripura, they questioned why someone like me, who had never been a Pradhan or MLA, was chosen. But in the end, it is the people who decide.”
On the topic of newly appointed BJP Mandal Presidents, Deb emphasized their duty to work for the welfare of the people and follow party rules. He made it clear that if any Mandal President fails to perform their responsibilities effectively, they would be removed from office.
“The people of Tripura brought the BJP to power, and Mandal Presidents must serve them, ensuring that government benefits reach the people. Simply visiting the party office is not enough. If a Mandal President does not fulfill their duties, they will be replaced,” he concluded.
