Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan has expressed deep grief over the demise of veteran filmmaker, director and screenwriter Padma Bhushan Shyam Benegal.
In his condolence message he stated, “Among the select list of thoughtful filmmakers of the country, Shyam Benegal’s name must be mentioned first. He left his indelible mark on Indian cinema through his unique contribution to parallel cinema.”
“Through his brilliant works like Ankur, Nishant and Manthan, he showed the courage to portray social realities. Under his guidance, many talented artists came to the fore. Through the historical television series ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’, he reintroduced millions of viewers to the glorious history of India.”
“With his demise, we have lost a talented producer-director who was an inspiration to many filmmakers. I pay tribute to the late Shyam Benegal and convey my condolences to his family and fans,” added Governor.
