Russian football team take part in 2030 World Cup qualifiers – Govt

Date:

The Russian Football Union developed a strategy according to which the Russian national football team could take part in the qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The most important thing here is for our teams to maintain their form and competitive practice. The president gave us this instruction. The Russian Football Union has developed a strategy according to which they set themselves the goal of our team’s participation in the 2030 World Cup. To do this, they must begin participating in the qualifying tournaments in 2028. It seems to me that this can happen earlier,” the deputy prime minister said.

He emphasised that Russia had been and would be an integral part of world sports; without it, no sports competitions would be seen as full-fledged.
