Close associate of Bengal CM and TMC leader shot dead in Malda

Date:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s close associate and TMC councillor Dulala Sarkar alias Babla was shot dead on Thursday by four armed assailants in Malda district, the Chief Minister said.

Police said four armed men shot dead Dulal Sarkar from a close range this morning.

Banerjee said her close associate Babla Sarkar was allegedly murdered in Malda district, and expressed her shock over the incident.

Sarkar was shot several times by bike-borne gunmen at Jhaljhalia More this morning.

Police said the assailants came on two motorcycles and fired four rounds from behind. Babla Sarkar was struck by three bullets, injuring his shoulder and head and later succumbed to his injuries in the Hospital.

“My close associate, and a very popular leader, Babla Sarkar has been murdered today. From the beginning of the Trinamool Congress, he (and his wife Chaitali Sarkar) worked hard for the party, and Babla was also elected a councillor,” Banerjee said.

She expressed shock and grief over the incident, urging immediate action against the culprits. She also offered condolences to the grieving family.

“I am sad and hugely shocked after learning about the incident. The culprits must be booked immediately. I am so shocked and sad that I do not know how to convey my condolences to the bereaved family. May God give Chaitali strength to survive and fight the battle,” added Banerjee.
