Agartala, 5th January 2025: Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the state government’s commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in agriculture and doubling farmer incomes during the inaugural session of the 53rd Annual Conference of the Tripura Agricultural Graduates Association held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Nath highlighted the progress made since the BJP government took charge in 2017-18. “Before we came to power, the monthly income of farmers was approximately ₹6,000. Today, it stands at ₹13,000. Our government’s primary objective is to double farmer incomes and boost agricultural production. Despite limited agricultural land, we are implementing modern farming technologies and distributing soil health cards to enhance productivity and achieve food self-sufficiency,” he stated.
He also noted that three districts in Tripura have already attained self-sufficiency in food production, with three more nearing the target, while two districts remain behind.
“The productivity rate of rice in Tripura is commendable, even surpassing that of West Bengal. However, the recent floods impacted this year’s harvest, causing significant losses. To mitigate these challenges, our department swiftly distributed seeds, saplings, and other essentials,” Nath added.
Highlighting future plans, the minister said the state is prioritizing initiatives like palm oil cultivation, organic farming, and similar sustainable practices to strengthen the agricultural sector.
