Agartala, 5th January 2025:  The central committee of the Gana Mukti Parishad has announced plans to hold a protest at the Raj Bhavan on January 11 from 12 noon to 3 pm, addressing the various issues faced by the tribal community.

The protest will be followed by the submission of a demand letter to Governor Indasena Reddy Nallu, urging the resolution of these problems. This announcement was made by Tripura State Upajati Gana Mukti Parishad leader and former minister Naresh Jamatiya during a press conference at the CPIM state office today.

He emphasized that the protest is part of the All India Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch’s nationwide movement. At the all-India level, the movement aims to raise awareness about the deprivation faced by tribal youth, particularly in the job market.

The demand, according to Jamatia, is for a greater focus on the reservation system for tribal youth in both central and state government jobs, as well as in corporate companies and outsourcing sectors. He said that despite requests for information regarding the reservation system, the government has failed to provide accurate data, which has further fueled the call for action.“The protest is part of a larger two-month nationwide campaign planned for January and February, during which a demand charter will be submitted to the Governor. Local issues specific to Tripura will also be included in the charter”, he said.Radhacharan Debbarma, General Secretary of the Tripura Rajya Upajati Gana Mukti Parishad, was also present at the press conference and supported the initiative.
