Agartala, 6th January 2025 :  In a significant breakthrough, security forces in Tripura have apprehended five human traffickers accused of facilitating illegal crossings of Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals over the international border.

Tripura, which shares an 856-kilometer-long border with Bangladesh, has been a critical point for such illegal activities. Addressing the media, Tapas Das, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official, revealed that the arrests followed the detention of illegal Bangladeshi nationals at the Agartala Railway Station.

“Yesterday, we detained five human traffickers from Harihar Dola Market in Sepahijala District. During the investigation, their involvement in aiding Bangladeshi nationals to cross the international border was confirmed. Based on this, we registered two cases and coordinated with the BSF, Tripura Police, and other agencies to ensure their arrest. They have been produced before the court,” Das stated.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jayanta Das (30), Sameer Das (38), Jakir Hossain (35), Mobin Mia (34), and Gaur Chand Debnath, also known as Sanu. All hail from Tripura’s Sepahijala District.  Authorities continue to investigate the case, focusing on dismantling the network responsible for such illegal border crossings.
