Agartala, 9th January 2025 : Facing numerous issues, the Tripura Railway Hawkers Association approved by the Mazdoor Monitoring Cell submitted a memorandum to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Commissioner today.
One of the hawkers explained, “We make our living by selling goods at railway stations or on trains. We earn around Rs 400 per day but enter the platform and the train without tickets.” He further revealed that previously, they faced one or two legal cases every six to seven months, usually for minor offenses which resulted in low fines.
However, hawkers now face numerous serious charges almost daily, including allegations of stealing railway materials. “We submitted the memorandum today to seek a resolution to these issues through discussion. We just want the poor hawkers to be able to earn a modest living without such challenges.”
The association hopes that the authorities will address their grievances and find a way to support the hawkers in their pursuit of a livelihood.
