Agartala, 30th January 2025:   In a significant initiative to uphold child rights and ensure their safety, the Tripura Child Rights Protection Commission, in collaboration with the School Education Department of the Government of Tripura, organized an awareness program on “Redressal of Grievances and Protection of Children under the Right to Education Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and POCSO Act.” The program, aimed at safeguarding children’s rights and raising awareness about legal protections, was held at Ardhendu Bhattacharya Smriti Bhavan in Dharmanagar.

The event was graced by the presence of District President Aparna Nath as the chief guest, along with distinguished personalities such as retired Judge Pran Krishna Pal, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, and Genius Debbarma, District Child Marriage Prohibition Officer (DCM), who attended as special guests.

The program commenced with the rendition of the national anthem, followed by an oath-taking ceremony emphasizing commitment to child protection. The atmosphere was further enriched by a melodious musical performance by girl students from Dharmanagar Government Class XII School, adding a vibrant touch to the proceedings.

The Education Officer, in his welcome speech, shed light on various legal provisions designed to protect children, including the Right to Education Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and the POCSO Act. “Awareness is the first step towards ensuring a safe and secure future for our children. We must collectively work towards eliminating child rights violations,” he urged.

Addressing the students, legal expert Gautam Kumar Shil elaborated on the legal mechanisms available for the protection of children and encouraged them to voice their concerns. “Children must not hesitate to report any form of abuse or injustice. The law is there to protect them, and they should feel empowered to seek help when needed,” he emphasized.

The awareness program is being seen as a crucial step in the direction of strengthening child protection measures in the state. Experts and officials believe that such initiatives will help children understand their rights and avenues for grievance redressal. “It is commendable that the state government is taking active measures to educate children and the community about their rights. Awareness is key to creating a safer society for our future generations,” said retired Judge Pran Krishna Pal.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to work towards the protection and well-being of children. The guests expressed their optimism that such programs will contribute significantly to making society more child-friendly and ensuring that children receive the care, protection, and opportunities they deserve.
