Agartala, 30th January 2025: As Saraswati Puja approaches, the idol-making hubs of the state are abuzz with activity. On Wednesday, a similar scene of heightened activity was observed among the artisans of Unakoti district. According to the lunar calendar, this year’s Saraswati Puja, one of the thirteen major festivals celebrated by Bengalis throughout the year, will be held on February 3, corresponding to the 20th day of the Bengali month of Magh.
Following traditional customs, Saraswati is revered as the goddess of knowledge. The festival is met with great enthusiasm, especially among students. On Vasant Panchami, the goddess will be worshipped in various educational institutions and many homes.
In the Rajnagar village of Fatikroy in Unakoti district, the busy scene of artisans was captured by media cameras. Local artisans Biplab Rudrapal and Dinabandhu Rudrapal shared that they have been involved in this profession for the past forty years. With Saraswati Puja just days away, they are racing against time, working day and night to complete the idol-making process. The artisans revealed that they have been working on the idols for the past month to meet the demand.
