Jitendra Chaudhury Slams BJP, Calls State Government a ‘Government of Commission’

Agartala, 31st January 2025:    Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury launched a scathing attack on the state government, accusing it of failing to undertake developmental initiatives for the welfare of the people. He labeled the administration as a “government of commission,” alleging that no work happens without kickbacks.

Addressing a press conference, Chaudhury, who was recently re-elected as the CPIM state committee secretary, shared details of the party’s three-day-long state conference, which concluded today at 3 PM. He highlighted that the conference process began in September with 400 Block Conferences, 300 Local Committee Conferences, followed by Sub-divisional and District Conferences, culminating in the state committee meeting.

“No other political party has undertaken such an extensive exercise. Over the past seven years, the political landscape has changed, and people have started engaging with us once again. Democracy has been undermined, and citizens are being denied their fundamental rights. The CPIM has consistently raised these concerns. Several attempts were made to disrupt our conference, with the ruling BJP using government machinery and political pressure to create hurdles, especially on January 29. Vehicles carrying our supporters were stopped and even vandalized,” Chaudhury alleged.

A total of 414 delegates participated in the conference, where a comprehensive written report on Tripura’s political situation and other key issues was presented. The report was thoroughly discussed by 51 representatives, with some suggesting new strategies while others proposed modifications.

The party congress is scheduled to take place in Madurai from April 2 to April 6. Following discussions, a 60-member state committee was elected, comprising a 14-member state secretariat, 40 members, and two observers for the All India Conference in April.

Chaudhury accused the BJP of running a fascist regime in Tripura for the past seven years, alleging that corruption has infiltrated every level of governance, from Gram Panchayats to the state Assembly. “Only a select few have benefited, while the common people continue to suffer,” he said.
