Agartala, 1st February 2025 : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the 2025 budget today, sparking discussions across the political spectrum. While some have praised the budget, the opposition has voiced strong criticism. The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) issued a statement condemning the budget for neglecting the pressing issues facing the Indian economy.
The CPI’s statement highlighted rising unemployment, inflation, increasing inequality, and regional disparities as major concerns that the budget failed to address. The party pointed out that the economy is in poor shape, with the Indian rupee hitting an unprecedented low and foreign debt on the rise. They criticized the budget for neglecting the social sector and the welfare of marginalized communities, citing insufficient allocation for education, health, and social schemes like MNREGA.
The CPI also expressed concerns over the increasing private participation in various sectors, including the nuclear sector, and the 100% FDI in the insurance sector, which they believe will negatively impact LIC and GIC. The budget’s failure to address important issues such as pension, social security, and the demands of farmers, as well as gender equality and social justice, was also criticized.
Despite the budget’s promise of zero poverty, the CPI argued that the number of people living below the poverty line is increasing. The party called on the public to protest against the pro-corporate policies and the central government’s failure to address the livelihood problems of the people.
