Agartala, 1st February 2025 : In a coordinated operation late on Friday night, Agartala GRP police along with Sidhai police, Lefunga police and Bamutia outpost police arrested two Indian touts for allegedly aiding Bangladeshi citizens in entering India illegally.
Agartala GRP police OC, Tapas Das, confirmed the arrests of Rajdhan Sarkar, a resident of Taltala Chichuria area under Sidhai police station and Akash Roy, a resident of Lefunga police station. Both individuals were handed over to the court by Agartala GRP police on Saturday.
OC Tapas Das revealed that the arrests were part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal entry of Bangladeshi citizens. He noted that Agartala GRP police had a case against the two touts, who were primarily involved in facilitating the illegal entry.
Speaking to reporters, Das stated that a total of 9 Bangladeshi citizens and 13 touts had been arrested from Agartala railway station in January. This operation marks another step in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration and ensure the security of the region.
