Meghalaya CM flags off PIMC’s health shuttle service

Date:

The P A Sangma International Medical College & Hospital (PIMC) in Meghalaya has launched a Health Shuttle service aimed at providing better transport options to the public in need of medical care.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma flagged off five mini bus and five vans from his official Goodwood bungalow on Thursday in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, USTM Chancellor M Hoque and senior government officials.

Praising PIMC for its innovative approach, the Chief Minister said, “This Health Shuttle service is a unique and much-needed intervention by PIMC. Despite the many challenges involved in establishing a medical college, the institution has taken commendable steps to address healthcare accessibility.

This service will not only assist rural communities but will also enhance the healthcare network across Shillong and surrounding areas.

The Health Shuttle service is initially rolling out with a fleet of ten vehicles.

Five of these will cater to rural areas, while the remaining five will serve urban regions, including Shillong. To start, two shuttles will operate within Shillong, with plans for expansion depending on demand.

Lyngdoh emphasised the importance of such services in bridging gaps in healthcare infrastructure.

“Transport remains a major barrier to timely medical care, particularly for those living in underserved regions. The introduction of these shuttle services offers a structured and reliable solution to improve patient mobility, ensuring that healthcare reaches those who need it the most,” she said.

To further enhance convenience, PIMC intends to introduce a mobile app, allowing patients to easily book transport services as required.

With this initiative, PIMC aims to further solidify its commitment to the community, ensuring that healthcare remains accessible, equitable, and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their location.
