Agartala, 17th February 2025:  Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, today criticized the previous left front government for not taking any steps in increasing the farmers income.

Minister Nath said this after inaugurating the state’s first FPO-2025 fair at Purbasha premises this evening, marking a significant step towards empowering farmers and boosting the agricultural sector in Tripura.

Minister Nath emphasized that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is prioritizing the welfare of women, youth, farmers, and the underprivileged sections of society.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to developing a self-reliant Tripura through the cooperation of all communities.

“The central government’s initiative to support farmers is paving the way for increased financial stability in the sector. We must encourage farmers to become self-reliant, as they are the backbone of our food supply,” Nath stated.

He said that FPOs (Farmer Producer Organizations) are farmer-led organizations that bring together small and marginal farmers to manage their agricultural produce, processing, marketing, and business activities.

“The goal is to improve the financial condition of farmers by increasing productivity, reducing costs, and ensuring fair prices for their crops in the market. The central government launched the Farmer Producer Organization project in 2020 to promote these organizations across the country”, said Minister Nath.

Nath said that the state currently has 58 FPOs spread across its 58 blocks, involving 10,434 farmers.

Minister Nath revealed that the monthly income of farmers has significantly increased under the current government’s policies. While the previous government had left the monthly income at Rs. 6,580, it has now risen to Rs. 13,590 due to various initiatives such as the Krishak Samman Nidhi Scheme, the support price for paddy, subsidized seeds and fertilizers, distribution of agricultural machinery, soil testing, crop insurance, and the establishment of Krishak Bandhu Kendras.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of the central government’s agricultural budget allocation in driving these positive changes.

In closing, Nath urged the people to join hands in building a self-reliant and prosperous Tripura and expressed his wishes for the success of the three-day FPO fair.
