Animesh stresses role of youth in scientific innovation

Agartala, 28th February 2025:  The ‘National Science Day-2025’ celebrations were inaugurated today at Sukanta Academy by Tripura’s Science, Technology, and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma. Addressing the gathering, the minister emphasized the importance of engaging the youth in science, technology, and engineering to build a developed India. The event’s theme, ‘Empowering Indian Youth to Lead the World in Building a Developed India in Science and Innovation,’ underlined the significance of scientific advancements in national development.

In his speech, Minister Animesh Debbarma highlighted the contribution of Nobel laureate Dr. C. V. Raman, who won the prestigious award in 1930 for discovering the Raman effect. He noted that National Science Day is celebrated annually on February 28 in his honor. The minister stressed the need for innovative science programs to generate interest in technical subjects among students and emphasized the necessity of aligning with evolving technologies to progress in the field.

He urged professors, lecturers, and educators to motivate students to pursue science and technology studies, stating that no nation can advance without scientific and technological development. “The Department of Science, Technology, and Environment should work towards creating public awareness about science and encourage students to develop innovative science models,” he added.

The event was also graced by Dr. K. Sasikumar, Secretary of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, who echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for innovative thinking among the youth. Director of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, Mahendra Singh, delivered the welcome address.

Following the inaugural ceremony, a technical session featured discussions by eminent scientists and academicians. Renowned scientist Dr. Avinash Chauhan, Professor Mrinal Kanti Debbarma from NIT, and Associate Professor Dr. Shaoli Bardhan from Techno College of Engineering provided in-depth insights into various aspects of science and technology.

As part of the celebrations, students from different technical colleges across Tripura showcased their innovative science models at the Sukanta Academy premises. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Bhavatosh Dutta, Senior Scientific Officer of Sukanta Academy’s Science, Arts, and Culture Auditorium.

The program successfully highlighted the critical role of scientific education and research in nation-building, inspiring students to take a keen interest in science and innovation.
