Agartala, 8th October 22: Senior BJP leader and Cooperative Minister Ram Prasad Paul has expressed his disappointment over the role of party a day after list of 16 members of the saffron leader was announced for election management committee in which name of Paul was missing.

On Facebook, Ram Prasad Paul on Saturday wrote, “BJP’s first statewide expansion in Tripura and my political journey began in 1991 with the poll campaign of BJP’s Shyamhari Sharma who contested in by-elections, in 1992 the first Tripura Bandh called by BJP on its own initiative and in 1993 the BJP’s first election in the state with 40 candidates held under the leadership of late Sameer Pal.  Having gained experience, it was quite possible to defeat any election challenge. As the reason is that we had to fight against two national political parties in the election field. At that time, the situation of the BJP was like a rabbit running in front of a tiger”.

He however claimed that in the early 90’s no one from Delhi gave that much importance to Tripura.

“Late Tapan Sikdar Banshilal Souni used to come from Kolkata and Kabindra Purkayastha from Silchar always inquired about us. Also in the Lok Sabha elections held in 1996, 1998, 1999 Jishnu Dev Varma was the candidate of BJP three times and held responsibility during election and handled various districts. In 1999 Lok Sabha elections BJP got 27% votes. In 2009 during Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election I became the election chairman (in charge) and led the elections with BJP candidates in all district council areas. Still I would say there is a lot more to learn from BJP. What I learned I learned from BJP. Whatever I will learn, I will learn it from BJP. So there is no purpose to lose or gain anything”, the minister wrote.
