Agartala, 23rd March 2025:   The long-awaited reopening of the Balaka Guest House at Kamalasagar Tea Garden is finally on the horizon, according to Tripura Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) Chairman Samir Ghosh today. Speaking ahead of his visit to the site this afternoon, Ghosh expressed optimism about the guest house’s revival, calling it an opportunity for families to enjoy the region’s natural beauty.

“The long wait of the people of the state and the area is about to end. At one time, there was anarchy in that Balaka Guest House. Now, by closing it, we are renovating it and giving the people of the state an opportunity to enjoy it with their families,” Ghosh said.

Originally built during the Left era, the three-story guest house was once a popular destination, offering stunning views of the Kamalasagar Tea Garden and even parts of Bangladesh, including the Kasba police station in Brahmanbaria district. However, the guest house fell into disrepair and was closed during the Left government’s tenure, leading to vandalism and neglect.

Under the BJP government, significant funds were allocated to restore the guest house, but its inauguration has been delayed for nearly seven years. Now, the TTDC Chairman’s visit, accompanied by Managing Director Manik Lal Das, Kamalasagar Tea Garden Manager Swapan Datta, and Panchayat Secretary Mona Tanti, marks a turning point.

Ghosh confirmed that the guest house will open its doors within the next two weeks, with management initially under the Kamalasagar Tea Garden. “We can enjoy the beautiful view of the tea garden, even a large part of the Kasba police station in Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh, from the roof of that guest house,” he added.

Encouraging residents and tourists alike to visit, Ghosh shared his hopes for the guest house to become a hub for appreciating the area’s natural scenery. “Come and enjoy the natural beauty with your family,” he urged. “We are hopeful that many tourists, not only from the state but also from the country and abroad, will definitely come to Balaka Guest House to appreciate the natural scenery.”

The reopening of Balaka Guest House is expected to boost tourism and provide a serene retreat for visitors seeking to connect with nature.
