Agartala, 8th April 2025:  In a significant development aimed at uplifting tribal education in Tripura, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma on Tuesday announced the approval of six new Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for the state.

The announcement was made upon his return from Delhi while addressing reporters at the Agartala airport.

Calling it the beginning of a “new dawn” for Tripura, the Minister said the green signal for the schools came after a high-level meeting with TWD Ministry Secretary Bibhu Nair in the national capital.

He emphasized that these schools will not only promote education but also nurture leadership, confidence, and creativity among children in tribal-dominated areas.

“Education is not just a curriculum—it is the backbone of a nation,” said Debbarma. “Through this decision, we are trying to further strengthen that backbone.”

The proposed EMRS institutions are envisioned to be equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, residential facilities, and a holistic environment to foster all-round development. The education community across the state has welcomed the decision, hoping it will serve as a beacon of hope in backward and underserved regions.

“Tripura is no longer just dreaming; we are steadily working to turn that dream into reality,” Debbarma added. “This project is about building the future of every child in the state.” Responding to media queries, the Minister assured that implementation of the schools will begin soon through a joint initiative between the Centre and the state government. He urged parents, teachers, and citizens to actively participate in this transformative educational journey.

“This is not merely an administrative decision,” he concluded, “but a firm step toward fulfilling the aspirations of an entire generation.”
