Agartala, 10th April 2025: Tipra Motha chief and royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, on Wednesday appeared before the West Tripura District and Sessions Court for Examination-in-Chief in connection with a case he filed last year over racial slurs targeting him and the indigenous people of the state.
The case stems from an FIR lodged by Pradyot in 2023 against one Saikat Talapatra, an Agartala resident, who allegedly called him and members of the indigenous community “Chinese,” “Chinese aunty,” and “Chinese dalal.” Talapatra was later booked under provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2023, and arrested.
Speaking to reporters after the court proceedings, Pradyot said, “I had to defend my community and my family after being referred to as Chinese. These remarks were directed at all of us. It reflects a larger issue in our country—racial profiling is not just limited to students outside the Northeast, but persists even within the region.”
He urged the indigenous community to seek justice through legal means. “I’ve told our people not to react illegally. We have faith in the judiciary and believe justice will prevail,” he added.
