Agartala, 12th April 2025:  A fire broke out under the jhulanta bridge near Udaipur Central Road this afternoon, engulfing the Chaitra Bazaar in thick black smoke and triggering widespread panic in the bustling market area. Witnesses reported that the blaze spread quickly, prompting immediate intervention by the fire department.

The flames escalated to a level where firefighters had to deploy significant resources to bring the situation under control. After a strenuous half-hour effort, the blaze was extinguished, averting what could have been severe damage to the market. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and closely monitored the rescue operations.

Speaking to media personnel here, the Finance Minister pointed out that traders in the area had been dumping garbage beneath the suspension bridge daily, creating a hazardous situation. Efforts are underway to analyze CCTV footage from nearby shops to identify the source of the fire and take appropriate action. The Minister urged local traders to remain vigilant and report such activities to the Municipal Council.

“We will take strict measures against those responsible. Had the fire spread further, the consequences for Udaipur’s market area would have been catastrophic,” the Minister warned, emphasizing the need for preventive measures.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for improved waste management and stricter enforcement of safety norms in Udaipur. The authorities are expected to take decisive steps to prevent such occurrences in the future.
