Congress organizes 4-hr mass sit-in protest in Khowai

Agartala Oct 22: Congress on Saturday staged 4-hrs mass sit-in protest in front of Punjab National Bank in Khowai Subhash Park pressing for 9-charter point demands related to public interest.

Under the initiative of Khowai Block Congress, the mass sit-in agitation was organized on Saturday from 11 am in the morning with demands including increase in wages of workers under REGA, taking timely steps to solve the problem of unemployment, timely payment of social allowances, road renovation in Khowai sub-division area, regularization of drinking water and electricity supply, demand for setting up a border haat in Khowai district.

The Congress also protested against corruption in various government departments of the state.Pradesh Congress Committee Member Paritosh Das, Teliamura District Congress President Bikram Kishore Sinha, Khowai Block Congress Committee President Jatindra Gope, former district president were present at the agitation. District Congress President Bikram Kishore Sinha strongly criticized various activities of the present government.

He said, law and order has completely collapsed. The government is not taking any initiative to curb the rising commodity prices. Attempts are being made to harass the leaders, activists and supporters of the opposition party by involving them in false cases. Also violence against women in the state is increasing day by day.
