Agartala, 17th April 2025:  Tripura Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday launched a sharp attack on opposition parties—Trinamool Congress, Congress, and CPI(M)—accusing them of spreading deliberate misinformation regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

Deb alleged that the opposition is misleading the public solely to cater to its vote bank. “Trinamool Congress, Congress, and CPI(M) have always been guided by vote bank politics. They have no regard for the country’s culture, traditions, or the devotion of its people,” he said.

Taking a direct swipe at the Congress party, Deb said it is obsessed with one family and lacks any vision beyond that. Defending the Waqf Amendment Act, he said it was brought in to benefit economically disadvantaged members of the Muslim community.

“While the Act is aimed at uplifting poor Muslims, a section of leaders is twisting facts to suit their political narrative. They are weaponising it for electoral gain rather than supporting meaningful reforms,” Deb added.
