Sadhu brutally assaulted at crematorium ghat at Teliamura

Agartala, 3rd May 2025:  A disturbing incident took place this morning at the crematorium ghat in Teliamura’s Netaji Nagar area, where a sadhu was brutally assaulted by two alleged drug addicts after refusing to give them money.

The victim identified as Dipak Acharya, a resident of Khayerpur had been living at the crematorium ghat for an extended period. According to sources, two intoxicated youths approached him demanding money for drugs. When Acharya refused, they reportedly launched a violent attack, severely beating him. The sadhu left bleeding collapsed at the scene before the assailants fled.

Local residents swiftly intervened and identified one of the suspects as Bhajan Debnath, a resident of Chakmaghat. The injured sadhu was rescued by locals and transported via ambulance to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Acharya, who renounced worldly life years ago to embrace sanyasa is widely known in the community. The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the area, sparking public outrage and a demand for stringent action against the perpetrators. Many residents are urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the accused face strict legal consequences.

Authorities are yet to confirm official details regarding the attack or any arrests made in connection with the incident.
