Agartala, 6th May 2025: A group of distressed farmers staged a road blockade in the Rangamatia area today demanding urgent repairs to a broken irrigation machine that has left their lands dry for nearly a month.
Local sources informed that the machine, which provides crucial irrigation support to farmers residing in Ward No. 5 under Rangamatia Gram Panchayat has been non-functional for several days. Despite repeated pleas for repairs, authorities allegedly failed to take timely action, leaving approximately 70 farmers struggling to water their crops over 105 kani of agricultural land. The affected crops include rice, pumpkin, chilli, and cucumber.
Facing prolonged hardship, the farmers resorted to blocking the road in a desperate bid to draw attention to their plight. On receiving reports of the protest, Additional SDM, Junior Engineer (Water), and the Melaghar DCM rushed to the scene and engaged in discussions with the protestors. Officials assured that one of the two motors would be fixed by the following day.
Following this assurance, the farmers lifted the blockade, expressing hope that their irrigation concerns would be addressed promptly to prevent further damage to their crops.
