Agartala, 12th May 2025: In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, police seized 960 kg of cannabis from a freight vehicle disguised as a transformer transport at the Naka Point of Churaibari Police Station in Dharmanagar Sub-division. The operation was conducted at 10:30 AM today led to the arrest of two persons involved in the illicit transportation.
Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khokon Saha led the vehicle check when a six-wheeler truck bearing registration number UP58AT-1128 traveling from Agartala to Guwahati was intercepted for inspection. Upon suspicion, the vehicle was seized and Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer B. Jerinpui along with District Police Superintendent Avinash Rai was alerted to the incident.
Following a thorough search in the presence of senior officials, authorities recovered 96 packets of ganja hidden inside 10 broken electrical transformers stored in the vehicle. “The concealment method indicates a well-planned smuggling operation,” a police official stated.
The arrested individuals were identified as Adres Kumar Sachchan (42) and Pramab Kumar, both residents of Kanpurnagar under Vidhu Police Station in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. During preliminary questioning, they admitted to transporting the consignment from Khayerpur Bypass in Agartala to Guwahati.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections against the accused. “We are investigating further to determine the origin of the supply and its destination network,” an officer at Churaibari Police Station confirmed.
Both suspects are scheduled to be produced before the district court tomorrow as investigations continue into the broader smuggling ring.
