Agartala, 15th May 2025:  A 24-year-old youth Krishna Das was arrested this afternoon for attempting to sell stolen gold and silver ornaments at a fraction of their actual value. The incident took place at SB Jewelry, opposite Kali Bari in Madhya Bazar under Bishramganj police station.

Shop owner Liton Banik became suspicious when Das offered to sell gold conch shell leaves, earrings, and other ornaments for only Rs 4,000, despite their estimated worth exceeding Rs 1 lakh. Banik discreetly alerted Bishramganj police, prompting an immediate response from OC Subimal Debnath and Second OC Mithun Saha. Upon arrival, officers weighed the ornaments and detained the suspect.

During interrogation, Das confessed that he had stolen the jewelry from Jayant Laskar’s shop in Nalchhar Bazar. Police contacted Melaghar Police Station and Nalchhar Bazar traders to verify his identity and circulated his photograph for confirmation. The stolen items included 10.850 milligrams of gold and 129 grams of silver.

The arrest caused a stir among Bishramganj jewelry traders, who gathered at the shop. With Bishramganj’s Weekly Market in full swing, concerns over security heightened, prompting traders to take extra precautions. Das remains in custody as investigations continue.
