Agartala, 15th May 2025: A chilling armed robbery has once again rocked Churaibari police station area leaving residents in fear and frustration over police’s response. The latest incident took place in Upper Phulbari, Ward 5, where a gang of robbers targeted the home of the late Apana Pal’s family.
According to reports, Rita Pal and her son Amit Pal had retired for the night when they were abruptly awakened at around 1:30 AM by loud noises from the car room. Before they could react, the gang held a gun to Amit Pal’s head, tied his hands, feet, and mouth, and threatened him with a dagger. Hearing her son’s muffled cries, Rita Pal rushed to intervene but was subdued in the same manner. The robbers proceeded to break open the locker, looting cash worth Rs 50,000, gold ornaments valued between Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh and two mobile phones.
In a brave act, Rita Pal managed to free herself and her son. Without a mobile phone at home, Amit Pal ran to the residence of the local gram panchayat Upa-Pradhan Nasir Uddin, to report the incident. “I was woken up by desperate knocking and Amit narrating the horrifying ordeal. I rushed to his house immediately,” said Uddin.
Upon receiving word, Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khokon Saha arrived at the scene to assess the situation. “We are investigating the matter with priority. The culprits will be identified soon,” assured OC Saha.
Despite police intervention, local residents remain anxious and dissatisfied. “The frequency of such crimes is increasing, and we don’t see enough police action to prevent them. People are losing faith,” voiced a neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous.
Amit Pal has since filed a written complaint with the police, and residents are closely watching to see if authorities can crack the case and bring the criminals to justice. Meanwhile, the incident continues to stir fear and frustration, with many questioning law enforcement’s effectiveness in tackling organized robberies.
The robbery has fueled outrage across the locality, as people demand stronger security measures and faster police action. “How are these gangs operating so fearlessly? We need answers,” expressed a local businessman.
