Agartala, 9th June 2025: The BJP Minority Morcha in Tripura has lodged a formal complaint with the West Agartala Police Station against a man accused of posting an abusive, defamatory, and communally provocative video targeting Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha.
The complaint was filed by Billal Miah, President of the BJP Minority Morcha, against Md. Sahajan Islam, a resident of Agartala. According to the complaint, on June 8, the accused uploaded a video on his personal Facebook profile with the caption “Muslimder Dharmiyo Swadhinota ache to?” (“Do Muslims have religious freedom?”). In the video, Islam allegedly used offensive language against Chief Minister Dr. Saha, mocking his professional background by saying “all Dr. Saha has ever done is extract teeth” and claiming “he knows nothing else.”
The video also allegedly contains defamatory remarks targeting Billal Miah personally. Miah stated in the complaint that Islam attempted to discredit him and other Muslim BJP workers by branding them as “traitors” to the Muslim community. “He called me a batpar (fraud), dalal (agent), munafiq (hypocrite), and used several other derogatory terms meant to tarnish my image and political reputation,” Miah said.
The complaint further alleges that Islam’s video called upon members of the Muslim community to sever all social and personal ties with Muslim BJP workers, including boycotting them in times of crisis. “He went as far as to say that if any of us or our family members die, the community should not offer help, attend funerals, or allow burial grounds for us. This is an open call for social boycott and religious ostracism,” Miah added.
Following the circulation of the video, Miah claimed he was physically attacked by a mob who accused him of betraying the community. He said he narrowly escaped with the help of a local resident, Md. Jashim Uddin. In his written complaint, Miah urged the police to register an FIR against Md. Sahajan Islam, investigate the matter thoroughly, seize the objectionable video, and take appropriate legal action against the accused.
