Agartala, 10th June 2025: A delegation from the All Tripura MGNREGA Employees Welfare Association also known as ATMA’s Panisagar Block Cell gave a deputation to Panisagar Block Development Officer (BDO) Manash Bhattacharjee today demanding timely payment of salaries and regularization of contractual employees.
The delegation led by Arjun Debnath, President of Panisagar Block Cell included Sanjib Debnath, District President of ATMA, North District Secretary Prantosh Bhowmik and other members of the association. The representatives highlighted that since 2007, NREGA workers have been diligently contributing to the state’s development. However, for the past two months, they have not received their monthly honorarium, despite continuing their work alongside regular government employees.
“The rising cost of essential commodities has made survival difficult for REGA employees. Many of us are struggling to provide for our families, including elderly parents and children, and even basic medical supplies are becoming unaffordable,” said a member of the deputation.
The workers also expressed frustration over the lack of prior notification regarding the suspension of their salaries. In response, the deputation demanded the regularization of all contractual employees from their date of joining and timely salary payments, similar to other government employees.
Accepting the deputation, BDO Bhattacharjee acknowledged the legitimacy of their demands and assured the delegation that he would escalate the matter to senior officials. “I understand the concerns raised and will bring them to the attention of the relevant authorities,” he stated.
Following the meeting, representatives of ATMA’s Panisagar Block Cell expressed optimism about the government’s intervention. “We are hopeful that the authorities will address our concerns with urgency and fairness,” said one of the delegates.
