Agartala, 15th June 2025:  In a series of intensified anti-smuggling operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended five cattle smugglers, rescued 12 cattle, and seized contraband items worth over Rs 20 lakh on June 14.

According to official sources, at around 3:45 PM yesterday BSF troops deployed at Border Out Post (BOP) Dholakcheri in South Tripura district apprehended five individuals involved in cattle smuggling. All accused are reported to be residents of South Tripura and Gomati districts. A total of 12 cattle were rescued from their possession.

In a separate operation based on specific intelligence, BSF personnel from BOP Nirbhoypur in West Tripura district foiled a smuggling attempt involving mobile phones. Miscreants were caught attempting to throw a consignment over the international fence into Bangladesh. The troops seized 47 new mobile phones, valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh.

In another joint operation conducted with local police, BSF troops from BOP Karmatila under South Tripura district carried out a house search in Karmatila village. The raid led to the recovery of foreign-manufactured cigarettes, clothing items, and other consumer goods—collectively worth another Rs 10 lakh.

The BSF has recently intensified its vigil along the international border in Tripura to curb cross-border smuggling, which remains a persistent security and economic challenge in the region.
