Agartala, 17th June 2025:  Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today has launched a scathing attack on Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury, demanding a public apology for his derogatory remarks about tall individuals and remarks against Assam Chief Minister and BJP.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Nath claimed that Chaudhury recently commented that “tall people are fools”—a statement he called offensive and unacceptable. He said such remarks not only insult prominent personalities in Tripura but also disrespect tall individuals across the country and abroad.

“The LoP said tall people are fools. This is an insult to countless individuals, including leaders from his own party. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and ex-minister Aghor Debbarma—both from the CPI(M)—are also tall. This kind of irresponsible statement reflects the LoP’s frustration and unstable mindset,” said Nath.

He further alleged that Chaudhury also referred to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP as “cheaters,” which Minister Nath described as defamatory. Calling for a public apology from the LoP, Minister Nath said, “If he is mentally and physically stable, he should apologize in public. Otherwise, CPI(M) must consider arranging treatment for him. Such behavior from a senior leader is worrying and harmful to democratic discourse.”

The minister also reminded the press about past allegations against Chaudhury, referring to the “ginger scam” and a file supposedly opened against him by former Education Minister Anil Sarkar.

He said that the file contained incriminating details about the LoP’s conduct.Minister Nath said, LoP Chaudhury’s comment about Brahmins consuming beef was deeply controversial and offensive to religious sentiments.“This is shocking coming from someone who has held responsible positions for decades,” he said.

Challenging the LoP to a public debate on Tripura’s development, he highlighted achievements under both Biplab Kumar Deb and the current Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.

“The progress Tripura has seen over the last seven years in infrastructure, education, health, and tribal welfare is unprecedented. Despite ruling for 35 years, CPI(M)n failed to win a single tribal seat in the last election. This clearly shows who really worked for the Janajati people,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Minister Nath accused Chaudhury of attempting to mislead tribal communities and destabilize political harmony through provocative and baseless statements.
