Landslide Disrupts Rail Connectivity in Tripura; Multiple Trains Cancelled

Agartala, 23^rd June 2025:  Train services along the Lumding–Badarpur hill section of Assam have been suspended with immediate effect due to a landslide at the New Haflong–Jatinga Lampur section. The incident has severed rail connectivity to Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and Barak Valley.

According to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the landslide caused large boulders, mud, and flowing water from the hills to accumulate on the tracks, posing a severe threat to safe train operations. The collapse occurred while road repair work was underway, destabilizing the slope between the road and the railway track.

Railway officials blamed unscientific and poorly managed slope protection efforts for the incident, which has disrupted this crucial railway link connecting several northeastern states to the rest of the country.

In response, the NFR has formally urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to immediately deploy manpower and machinery to stabilize the slope and secure the area. Meanwhile, efforts have already begun to clear the debris from the tracks. However, train services will remain suspended until safety is fully restored.

As a result of the landslide, the following trains have been cancelled:

            •           June 23: Guwahati–Silchar, Rangiya–Silchar, Guwahati–Dullavcherra Express, and Silchar–Rangiya Express.

            •           June 24: Dullavcherra–Guwahati and Naharlagun–Silchar Special Express.

Additionally, several services have been short-terminated:

            •           Silchar–Naharlagun Special (terminated at New Harangajao),

            •           Agartala–Anand Vihar Tejas Express (terminated at Badarpur),

            •           Sealdah–Silchar Kanchanjungha Express (terminated at Lumding).

Earlier, on June 21 and 22, the Charalpalli–Silchar Express, Kolkata–Agartala Garib Rath Express, and Lokmanya Tilak–Agartala Express were all curtailed up to Guwahati.

The departure of the Silchar–New Delhi Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express has been rescheduled from June 23 to 6:00 AM on June 24.

NFR authorities stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and will resume train operations on this section only after ensuring complete safety. Passengers have been advised to check train status before planning their journey in this region.
