Shayari Project’: Akhtar, Vishwas pay tribute to Indian poetry

Date:

‘India Shayari Project’, an offering from Zee Special Projects, will mark this Independence Day with an enriching poetic dialogue where Javed Akhtar, Zakir Khan, Kausar Munir and Kumar Vishwas will discuss why India is not just a piece of land but a ‘sentiment’.

Be it the Bhakti dohas of Kabir, the Sufi ‘kalaam’ of Bulleh Shah, Tagore’s ‘Geetanjali’, Bismil Azimabadi’s ode to young freedom fighters (Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna), Dinkar and Nirala’s contemporary voices or the progressive Urdu masterpieces of Sahir, Kaifi Azmi, Gulzar and Javed Akhtar, Indian poetry has captured India in all its diversity since time immemorial.

It is this unbroken poetic narrative that the ‘India Shayari Project’ pays a heartfelt tribute to.

But what exactly is India? Akhtar whose poetic legacy goes back to his grandfather Muztar Khairabadi and father Jaan Nisar Akhtar recounts how his poetry has painted the many colours of India through bhajans, Urdu ghazals and light-hearted film songs, while young talent Zakir Khan will recall the influences that have today made him the voice of the Indian masses.

Well-known lyricist, poet and film-writer Kausar Munir will relive how she veered from English academics to shayari and cinematic writing.

Kumar Vishwas will be the ‘sutradhar’, and will also share his patriotic and romantic poetry.

Watch ‘India Shayari Project’ on August 14 on TataPlay Theatre, and August 15 on Airtel Spotlight and Dish and D2H Rangmanch Active.
