Shraddha Kapoor to step into the shoes of Marathi dancer Vithabai Narayangaonkar

Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor is reportedly set to undertake one of the most challenging roles of her career, portraying Vithabai Narayangaonkar, the celebrated Marathi stage doyenne immortalised as the “Tamasha Queen”..

Industry circles are abuzz that filmmaker Laxman Utekar, fresh from the success of “Chhaava”, is preparing an ambitious new project under the banner of Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. If finalised, Kapoor will essay the titular role, portraying Narayangaonkar’s remarkable journey from the rustic nautanki stages of Maharashtra to becoming an enduring of cultural performance.

The makers have reportedly obtained exclusive rights from Narayangaonkar’s family to ensure fidelity to her extraordinary legacy. The narrative will be rooted in Yogiraj Bagul’s book ‘Tamasha: Vithabaichya Aayushyacha’, which offers a poignant account of the artiste’s trials and triumphs amidst the turbulent socio-cultural currents of her time.
