Veteran actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 in Mumbai at Breach Candy Hospital, where he had been admitted last week. Earlier, reports claimed that the actor was on a ventilator, however, Sunny Deol’s team had confirmed late on Monday night that he was stable and recovering well.
Details about Dharmendra’s last rites have not been revealed yet.
Around 9 am today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed his death. “Deeply saddened by the demise of veteran actor and former MP Shri Dharmendra ji. A versatile actor who brought life to many memorable characters with his unmatched charm and sincerity. His remarkable contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers,” he wrote on X.
On November 10, his wife, veteran actress-politician Hema Malini, shared an update about his health, telling fans that he was being continuously monitored at the hospital. Taking to her X (formerly Twitter), Hema wrote on Monday, “I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji who is in hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery.”
