Agartala, 23rd December 2025:   In a pre-dawn operation today, Jatrapur police personnel led by OC Smriti Kanta Bardhan destroyed a vast number of fully grown cannabis plants across two locations in the police station area. The raid was conducted under heavy fog and carried out without resistance, according to police claims.

Briefing the media personnel this afternoon, OC Bardhan said that the operation began at 7 am with the participation of all officers, constables, and TSR personnel from the 9th, 11th and 14th battalions. The team first moved to Jagatrampur’s ADC village, where cannabis plants were cut down across 12 plots in the dense Teisam jungle.

After returning to Kathalia, the force advanced northwards from the Kathalia commercial hub via the Sonamura–Belonia bypass road, covering nearly 12 kilometers before reaching the Thammamura jungle in South Paharpur. There, cannabis plants were destroyed across 10 additional plots.

Witnesses reportedly observed the operation from a distance, but OC Bardhan noted that the sheer strength of the police contingent deterred plantation owners from intervening. In total, cannabis plants from 22 plots estimated at nearly 1,00,000 were cut down during the two-day drive.

Police confirmed that the operation was based on secret intelligence inputs and emphasized that similar anti-narcotics drives will continue in the coming days.
