Agartala, 28th December 2023: In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded at GB Pant Hospital, the family of ten-year-old Ayush Malakar is grieving the loss of their child due to alleged negligence during treatment. Ayush, a resident of Khayerpur in Kalkolia, Sidhai Mohanpur area, was suffering from a urinary problem.
The family sought the assistance of Dr. Pritam Das, a local practitioner, to address Ayush’s medical condition. According to the family’s complaint, Ayush was taken to Dr. Pritam Das’s private chamber at Advisory Chowmuhani in Agartala. The treatment, supervised by Dr. Pritam Das, reportedly continued at the private chamber.
Dr. Pritam Das scheduled an operation for Ayush at Agartala GB Hospital last Thursday, with a demand for Rs 1 lakh for the procedure. However, the family claims to have paid only Rs 10,000 to the doctor so far. On the scheduled day of the operation, Dr. Pritam Das allegedly did not proceed with the surgery and rescheduled it for December 28.
On Wednesday, Ayush was admitted to GB Hospital, and medicines were again procured from Dr. Pritam Das’s chamber. Unfortunately, the treatment proved ineffective, and Ayush was pronounced dead on the operating table. The family accuses Dr. Pritam Das of negligence, claiming that he abandoned the operation table upon declaring the child’s demise.
The news of Ayush’s death sparked heated emotions at GB Hospital, with family members and local residents expressing their outrage. Ayush’s mother, overwhelmed by grief, was seen in tears. In response to the tense situation, police and TSR jawans were deployed to maintain security at the hospital.
